Paul’s Bio
Paul Vibhavadi is the self dubbed “world’s fastest-moving bilingual sloth” based in Bangkok, Thailand. Despite his passive and sluggish demeanor, Paul possesses the hyperactive wit and creativity of a modern day auteur in his late twenties. Equipped with minimal communication skills, Paul’s chosen tongue is his eclectic musical language; specifically Sloth House, Lazy Funk and even a touch of Indie Folk. Unaware of his beginning and place in the world, Paul seeks solitude and perhaps, self discovery as he sets out to find answers to the groove ingrained within, on his journey to the mythical Himmapan forest.
Song Stories
The Other Side captures Paul leaving the hectic city in pursuit of the Himmapan forest, a place that is neither heaven nor hell, but a peaceful paradise in between the realms where he hopes to find solitude and all kinds of beings just like him. Equipped with a sacred map, he stumbles upon a tribe deep in the woods that worships sloths and their way of life. Mistakenly, Paul gets taken in and praised as their ‘chosen one’, spoiled and glorified as the tribal leader. Soon enough, he finds himself in a crowning ritual and surround in a blur of dancers as he learns the three phrases that the tribe live by; Sabai Sabai สะบายๆ, Mai Pen Arai ไม่เป็นอะไร and Chill Chill Chill Chill ชิลๆๆๆ. For a while, he feels loved and at home but then the thought of being trapped in adoration and idolized forever takes over. Does he continue on his quest for solitude or does he remain here, in familiar comfort for an eternity?
Balter Baby is a continuation of the trance from the ritualistic dance of the previous episode. Here we enter his brain to see a video game aesthetic as he dances along to the upbeat rhythm, completely enveloped by this new world that has welcomed him. Soon, he breaks from the fourth wall, recalls his original quest and begins pacing through the forest but realizes that he is being followed by gazing eyes and moving feet. In a panicked rush, he begins to run and turns to see an army of followers from the tribe following him, desperate to capture Paul. The chase continues to a cliff face where in a final attempt to break free, Paul miraculously takes flight by forming a glowing orb of infinite light around his sloth body. He floats away into the stars, but where is he going?
Past Life follows Paul as he floats aimlessly in the void of space. From having no previous recollection of his childhood or beginning, Paul is suddenly bombarded with colorful visions of his past lives. The cinematic collage in his head brings up many vivid memories and it is here that he first encounters the feelings of doubt and regret. A particular memory he recalls clearly is one of him as a human, a songwriter, an artist in his late twenties as he relives the very best and very worst of times within that lifespan while he floats gently into the abyss.
If This Is The End finds Paul as he transitions from the darkness of space into a blinding white beam that stretches out into an infinite plain. Here, he no longer floats and is able to walk on his two feet. There is a warmth in his heart as he paces step by step. Although Paul is unaware of the direction he is going, he no longer feels lost. Is this the Himmapan forest that he has been in pursuit of? He grins as this question fills his mind, unbothered by the uncertainty. Paul begins to reminisce of the people he left behind, in this life and the former and hums a soothing goodbye harmony. There is a hint of sadness in his voice as the melody shivers through the cosmos but at the same time, a permanent smile takes a hold of his lower face. So long Paul Vibhavadi?
