유례없는 팬데믹과 기후 위기, 그리고 혐오 정서의 난립으로 점철된 2020년대의 포문이 열렸다.
2020년의 새로운 시작점에서 textures. 멤버들은 전자음악을 통해 우리가 속한 커뮤니티와 인류가 직면하게 될 10년간의 모습을 미래지향적이고 다양한 관점에서 그려낼 예정이었지만, 전 지구적 팬데믹 상황에 의해 2020년 발매 예정이었던 [t2x9t4r8s] 앨범을 올 여름 발매하게 되었다.
5200년 전, 고대 마야 문명의 달력은 인류가 수 세기에 걸쳐 구축해 온 문명이 끝나는 시기가 2012년이라 예지했다. 하지만 과학자 파울루 타갈로긴의 새로운 해석에 의하면, 마야 달력을 그레고리력으로 환산했을 때 발생하는 2,948일이라는 오차를 적용해야하고 이 때 사실상 종말의 날은 2012년이 아닌 2020년이 된다.
어쩌면 마야인들이 예언한 멸망은 인간의 완전한 멸종이 아닌 우리가 직면한 여러 가지 사회적 문제 자체로부터 야기된 고통의 최정점을 말하는 것일지도 모른다. 반면 2020년대가 2010년대의 어두운 병폐를 매듭짓고 새로운 희망의 시대로 기억될지는 아무도 모르는 것이다.
2년 간의 긴 암흑기를 깨고 엔데믹의 기로에서 textures.는 이번 컴필레이션 앨범 [t2x9t4r8s]를 통해 사운드로써 다가오는 미래의 다양하고 새로운 담론을 제시한다.
To mark the start of a new decade, we planned to express our perspectives, visions, hopes, and wishes from our communities through sound.
However, the year 2020, and the months that followed, experienced an unprecedented pandemic, a series of climate crises, and punctuated outbreaks of hatred. One consequence of these events was the delay of the release of our album, [t2x9t4r8s], from early 2020 to this summer.
5200 years ago, the ancient Mayan calendar predicted the end of human civilization to occur in 2012. However, an updated interpretation by 20th century physicist Paulo Tagaloguin discovered a 2948-day error when converting the Mayan calendar to the Gregorian calendar: when recalculated, the apocalypse is set to occur in 2020.
While the Mayans' predicted cataclysm may not be the end of human civilization, it does point to the culmination of our current misfortunes. Only time will tell whether the decade of 2020 will be remembered as the end of a new dark age or the beginning of a new era of hope.
As the beginning of the end of the pandemic is in sight, we feel it is finally appropriate to share with you our new compilation album, [t2x9t4r8s], filled with our expressions of the future.
