Seventh full-length from the Grammy winning Jackson, KY country and bluegrass singer-songwriter. All songs written by Sturgill Simpson, and produced by Simpson alongside David Ferguson [Johnny Cash, John Prine, Charley Pride] at the Cowboy Arms Hotel and Recording Spa in Nashville. The Ballad of Dood & Juanita [2021] is a narrative set about a pair of lovers torn apart by violence during the Civil War. Willie Nelson, whose 1975 Red-Headed Stranger concept album was an influence on this project, makes a guest appearance as a lead guitarist on “Juanita.” The new set follows the two Cuttin’ Grass [2020, 210K+ units sold, 100M+ streams] collections featuring bluegrass versions of songs from his first three albums. The same musicians who played on Cuttin’ Grass also appear on The Ballad of Dood & Juanita. Sturgill Simpson will appear on the Outlaw Music Festival tour with Willie Nelson and Margo Price in September, and he'll play five nights at Webster Hall in New York City.
