Textures – N.A.S.A 앨범 소개서
우주라는 소재를 음악적 컨셉으로 가져온 한국 언더그라운드 뮤지션들의 합작 [N.A.S.A.]
뮤지션들이 자신들의 음악을 자유롭게 올리는 플랫폼인 사운드클라우드가 생긴 이후 미국항공우주국 N.A.S.A.는 공식적으로 사운드클라우드 채널을 오픈했다.
N.A.S.A.가 우주로 보낸 지구의 여러 소리들과 우주 관련된 팟캐스트들을 사람들이 무료로 다운받을 수 있게 업로드하기 시작했고, 이에 영감을 받은 국내 하우스/테크노 음악 플랫폼인 텍스쳐스(txtrs.)의 멤버들은 N.A.S.A.의 사운드클라우드에 있는 소리들을 이용하여 자신들만의 프로세스로 완성한 곡들을 모아 컴필레이션 앨범을 제작했다.
익숙하지 않은 소리들과 익숙하지 않은 공간감으로 가득한 이 앨범의 언더그라운드 댄스 음악들은 이어폰을 끼고 플레이 버튼을 누름과 동시에 여태껏 상상해왔던 모든 우주적인 장면들을 머리속에 떠올리게 한다.
스티븐 스필버그의 영화 ‘미지와의 조우’ 에서는 과학자들이 외계인들과 접촉할 방법중 하나로 음악을 선택했다. 그만큼 아직까지 미지의 영역인 우주라는 소재의 이번 컴필레이션 앨범은 생소하지만 댄스음악을 좋아한다면 집 혹은 클럽, 그 어디에서 들어도 당신에게 놀라운 상상력을 선사할 것이다.
It is said that there are no sounds in deep space - the large empty areas between stars and planets provide no medium for molecules to vibrate. Yet, N.A.S.A. was able to record, extract, and sonify parts of the cosmos for musicians to use on Soundcloud - an independent platform for musicians.
We were inspired by these samples and imagined how they would sound within the context of our culture: house and techno music. Full of unfamiliar sounds and spaces, our second compilation album [N.A.S.A.] is our contextualization of the cosmos - a place of imagination.
Like in Steven Spielberg's film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, where scientists choose music as a way to reach out to aliens, with [N.A.S.A.] we hope to communicate the mysteries of the cosmos to our listeners.
